Is there anybody out there?
Hi! My name is Rachael. I'm currently training to do a century ride to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This journal goraego
is a recount of my progress and experiences as I train. Please feel free to add me. Livejournal tells me I don't have enough friends lol

When i was doing biceps after doing free weight bench, my arms got extreme tight and were huge and bulding. I had to relax just so my arms wouldn't feel like iron stiff. I could move my arms and lift, but it was as if the muscle was pushing inward on itself and making it hard like a rock. After doing some triceps and other lifts, my arms returned to normal.
Is it just because I was a bit low on water intake?

I keep track of my heart rate after wanting to be more effective in my workouts; however, for a 29 year old male, I feel most relax when my heart rate is about 90% my max and only feel like its a hard workout at aprox 120% the max, according to all the charts. I do tend to have low blood pressure reading and low heart rate, but I can stand up quickly w/o feeling light headed. Is this normal for those that workout. When I run all out, my heart rate is about 212-230 bpm. When I am in the zone when running its aprox 163-170 bpm. When I wake up I average about 47-53 bpm. So that means my Heart reserve is over 150.

anyone else have issues of getting off the toilet because running dropped their blood pressure?

Is running on the track (tarmac) the best terrain to train on for short and long distances or are cross country trails or roads better?
Do you have any suggestions for me triathlon running-wise, i.e. where to train, whether better on track or on the roads? I want to train in the most efficient location due to time availability constaints.
Your advice is highly appreciated.

1-1 thru 1-8
M: 12 (partly trail)
I still cannot find a Spring marathon yet. Since Napa Valley is out, due to knee setbacks, I've been looking for one that comes about a month later, but I'm not having much luck. Reno has a new marathon, but it's at 5000' elevation, so I don't think I want to do that one. Most likely, it'll be San Diego RnR in June, but that seems like an awfully long time away.

This week, last week, Dec 21-Jan 1
Fr: 8 (trail)
Sa: 0 (knee hurts)
Su: 0 (knee hurts)
M: 8 (trail)
Th: 9 (trail)
Fr: 8 (trail)
Sa: 4 (trail)
Su: 9 (trail)
The knee was hurting like hell last week, and I was worried it would never heal. Halfway through this week, it started feeling a lot better. I think that has a lot to do with the offroad miles on dirt and mud. The trail running here is so slow that I average 9-11 minutes per mile, and I'm really enjoying that. I think I'll have to start trail running a lot more from now on. I found some Merrell Full Pursuits
for $19 at the Marshall's here. I alternated trail running in the Saucony Chebaccos and the new Merrells. The Merrells are much heavier and stiffer, but I don't feel the rocks as much. Running on asphalt feels pretty awful in the Merrells, so I guess I'll use those mostly for more rugged trail running.

Ran today, Avg bpm 153, Time 18'30"86.
Used the hill I live on to split the workout, first just easy pace because I am getting back into running and the I used the hill to close the run. Always have a hard time of just keeping pace towards the end of the run, my body just wants to speed up to full blast.
The hill is about 20 growing to 30 degree and about 4 block long.

I ran yester day for nearly an hour, just nice a slow. Still getting near vomit coughing fits towards the end and having to blow several noses while running.
Athletix training log from NormSoft
Well its that time of year, time to decide if I'm going to switch training logs for next year or stick with my current one. I thought I should have kept a log of my tests... but I didn't and have abandoned three already. However, one possible winner seems to be Athletix from NormSoft.
Runs on Palm devices including my Treo 650. No waiting around to log training details until I get back to the PC. Heck since I use the Treo as an MP3 player out on runs, and as a phone/camera/MP3(yeah I know..) while cycling... I have it with me on rides/runs.
It is pretty good, has seperate data entry for rides, runs, swimming, health, cardio workouts etc. You can add both locations, types of workouts etc. It has a useful and customisable set of graphs for all workout and other entry types. It can be set-up for Enlish/US or metric measurements. I'm only on the free 15-day trial and will either wrap and scrap after the w/e, or buy then.
I've find one thing that looks like a bug. Having set my units of measure to English(ie miles), it says in the docs you can change the unit by exercise type, so for swimming I'd like meters but it doesn't change. I've email their support and will take that into consideration when deciding to buy(or not).
You can try it to, its available here:http://www.normsoft.com/athletix/dl/Athletix.zip
